‘Are we the only SU movement in the world with a Student Council?’

Scripture Union Solomon Islands sends greetings to all SU movements around the globe. We have had high, low and very low moments over the years, but give praise to God for his never failing love and His move of Grace upon this wonderful Ministry.

While our governing body is the National Council, we also have a ‘Student Council’ that operates alongside it! Are we the only SU movement in the world with a Student Council? Our Student Council implements the decisions of the National Council, which are often based on Student Council proposals! Two Student Council representatives sit on the National Council to ensure that students have a voice. The Student Council also operates as a very efficient network between SU School Groups, which operate in about 85% of our secondary schools.

Our main aim in 2008 has been to visit every Solomon Island secondary school. We have met school students in Honiara with a hunger for God, and increased numbers attend Scripture Union sessions in schools that are visited.

We have also begun holding monthly combined fellowship meetings which are times of celebration. At the two held so far, SU groups from each school presented an item in the form of songs, drama or testimonies. These events are also bringing unity between different denominations as they are able to come together under the interdenominational banner of SU. We are even looking for a bigger hall to accommodate the growing number of students attending.

We believe the SU movement has an anointing to impact Solomon Island young people for God.

If you would like to ask more about how an SU Student Council might differ from the more traditional committee, ask at the Catalyst Forum on line. Also find out about the peer support project that the Student Council is currently developing. There’s a video clip and lot’s of photo’s too.
